Valerie Zuidema grew up in Haileybury, Ontario, a 5 minute drive from one of the most historic mining towns there is, Cobalt. Like many other children in the area she spent many hours amongst the old ruins of mines and mills in Cobalt never really aware of the many dangers that surrounded her joy.
She has since lived in some of the most famous mining camps in Ontario and Manitoba including Timmins, Kirkland Lake, Red Lake, Sudbury and The San Antonio district in Manitoba.
Being the wife of a Mining man has awakened a love and respect for the dangers Miners face daily and the beauty of the underground environment that they work in. It has also reminded her of the town she once loved as a child. Valerie is now recapturing this love with paintings of men at work and of the landmarks she has lived among.
She currently resides in Timmins, Ontario with her husband and 2 daughters. |
